“ I have loved Zankou since I lived in Glendale in the 80s. I believe they originated there. Over the years I kind of forgot about it after moving to Sherman Oaks in the mid-90s. Thank you for reminding me of the supreme wonder that is Zankou. Zankou built a lovely facility in Toluca Lake (we live about as close to the newer one across from Costco in Van Nuys, but I get tremors any time I get near Costco, and bessides...) Zankou Toluca Lake is fantastic food first and foremost; of all the Zanks I'm aware of, it is the most spacious. And it is super popular as it should be. We go every single Friday to take out and it kickstarts our weekend. I have a combo skewer of steak and chicken and our other order is a half chicken, that always comes juicy and fresh. I always call in the order (it's both part of the ritual and it's also because I like dealing with people). I appreciate that. There are some faster food restaurants where you can't get a person on the phone and I feel somewhat lost to the gods of non-personal ordering. While I suspect my Zankou order would come out the same degree of perfect, I love that the staff knows me and look out for my order. They have a very generous loyalty program so we frequently get a side of the beautiful tabouli. And loyalty cuts both ways -- I love this restaurant and have a hard time on weekends that lack my Zankou, even if it's to actually do something else. Next to the food (without which I'd have no reason to go to Zankou), this is truly the nicest, friendliest, most welcoming and conscientious staff in the world. I give credit to all the people whom I know - Lili,Suzie, Saoul, Adrian and the other people whom I've dealt with over the years, but Celia the manager, is beyond the amazing that all her staff is, probably because of her influence. They know their customer and no matter how busy they are (and Friday's at around seven when we order, it's very busy) they are never so overwhelmed that they don't greet you warmly, offer you some water if you're waiting, and make you feel that you're a valued customer. I'd be a valued customer for the food alone, but Zankou Toluca Lake (ate least) is as good as it gets for me. (I'm even willing to wake up with Zankou mouth, which comes with the meal no matter how many times you brush. The emphasis on garlic and salt is not slight, but worth it). For many years I gave the people I work with Zankou gift certificates for Christmas -- never a complaint. I love me my Zankou and I wouldn't have it any other way. ”

“ I'm doing this. After eating here almost every month for the last couple of years, I will admit that I love Zankou Chicken. Why, you ask? When there are so many other Mediterranean kabob shops in the neighborhood? The price. The quality. And the bang for the buck. Comparing it to two local kabob restaurants (Joes Falafel and SOTTA), it's the extras. For the price! It comes with so many additions. The cabbage salad is perfectly acidic. The cucumber salad is so fresh. The rice is always fluffy never dry. It comes with my FAV... a grilled whole tomato with marinated red onion slivers. The harissa sauce is the right balance of heat-y. And the chicken kabob is always always moist and well seasoned. And this location is our favorite because they are consistent!! The other kabob shops turned us off after a while because we weren't getting consistent food. Or they upped their prices so Zankou was just a better deal. And the people who work here are always so so sweet!! Generous and friendly. It's a great location. Very clean. Very organized. ”
